Leaves for our pillow

Yippee di dooda, yippee di day! My oh my, it’s a writing prompt day! (Ha, that even scans.)

When we go to Neverland, we have to climb up this spiral staircase to get to the Far Off Places office. We like tree houses. They bring us closer to the heavens. They teach us the glory of dappled things. They smell of fresh foliage and warm wood. On rainy days we type in time to the patter on the roof. We wake up to the sun through yellow curtains, and a rainbow on the wall.

Tell us about your tree houses.

A Grand Day Out

Hello there, folks. Sorry we’ve been rather quiet recently - the Far Off Places headquarters has been held captive in the festival-fuelled fringe city! We’ve also been getting ourselves into rather a tizz, because it turns out that all of our favourite things are happening in September. (Other than Christmas, that is.) We thought we’d share them with you, so that you can be tizz-y too.

Exciting thing #1

We’ve released the theme for Issue IV: Between the Leaves. Time to go climbing trees, and rooting around in second-hand bookshops. Report back by 30 September.

Exciting thing #2

We’ve been steadily working our way through recording The Back of Beyond and hope to be able to produce the full audioversion of the magazine in September. Meep! Until then, tune into our podcasts to get a sneak preview of what’s in store!

Exciting thing #3

After a rather longer scuffle with Apple than we had anticipated, we have finally been given the go ahead to produce an iOS Newsstand version of Far Off Places! So you’ll soon be able to download our issues onto all your i-thingamijiggies and take them with you everywhere you go. Hoorah!

Exciting thing #7

We’re now busy stitching Issue III together (metaphorically speaking) and it is going to be eerily beautiful and beautifully eerie (not metaphorically speaking). The issue will be appearing in the second half of September.

Exciting thing #101

Get your diary out. Have you got it? And a pen? No, not that one, that one’s out of ink, remember? Right, ready? Good.

We are organising a grand old Far Off Places shindig at 7.30pm on 12 September. You will be able to find us in the Meadows Bar in Edinburgh, with some of the lovely, talented and beautiful writers from our first and second issues. The evening will commence with said lovely, talented and beautiful people reading, and will then meld seamlessly into a storytelling session, at which point anyone (cough, that means you) can get up to tell a story, sing a song, or share a joke. It is going to be grand.
